Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia.
Left right after school, we had a 5:30 plane to catch. Traffic was terrible, our taxi briefly broke down on the side of the highway, and I forgot to print my boarding pass.
Luckily I was able to sweet talk the check in line fella and got moved to the from of the express lane. Met Ashley in the immigration line, flew through security, and made it to our gate with just enough time to grab some ice cream before we boarded. Seconds to spare.
Arrived in KL late, got a Boost smoothie (the most magical smoothie place) and headed to the hotel for some sleep.
Saturday we woke up and went to the Petronas Twin Towers. We could see the towers from the hotel and thought they weren’t too far away. The gal at the front desk assured us it would take about 45 minutes to walk there. Challenge accepted, we made it to the towers in 36 minutes….still much further than we thought.
Bought tickets for the tour and got the last two tickets for he tour that was about to begin.
In the elevator with our new friends
First stop was the skyway. There is 2 levels, one for tourists and the other for people that actually work there. The views were incredible.
We asked one of the people on our tour to take a picture of us. That turned into a 10 minute photo shoot with Karen and Ashley. I think we had an individual photo with every person in out group. Local celebrities.
Next stop was the 86th floor. So high up that we could see the tops of other tall buildings. Ekkkkkk.
After the tower tour we met up with a friend of Ashley’s that use to work at Berkeley for afternoon snacks and drinks. Then we went to Little India, had some more yummy snacks, double dog dare to put not he dragon suit, then headed back to the hotel.
In this dinky taxi….
The guy drove us 20 minutes out of the city telling us he was driving us downtown. Ha! Crazy man, we have google maps. Needless to say, we argued with him and hopped out of the car without paying him the full fair because he was crazy town.
Made it back to the hostel, took a power nap, freshened up and headed for a night out! The nightlife was fantastic and we could walk there from our hotel. They had a salsa bar that was playing live music. There was a Route 66 bar and a guy with a pet python sitting on the side of the road.
Perks of growing up with a mom that had pet snakes for her science class, not afraid to hold them!
Sunday we went to The Batu Caves. We took a train that quite possibly the slowest train ever! Climbed 272 steps to reach the top. There were many different caves you could venture into. The dark cave was home to the rarest spider in the world…skipped that one.
Ashley got her hand read.
Then there’s this…
Monkey dude
Did some afternoon shopping. Fit in with the locals by taking a bazillion pictures of the shopping mall decor.
Wen out to the bar street for round 2, another night of salsa dancing, sadly we didn’t see our friend with the python.
Monday morning we woke up and had a Boost smoothie for breakfast. Relaxed at the mall and then headed for the airport. We had the coolest Uber driver!
Ashley is really into motorcycles. There is a huge racetrack in KL, we asked the Uber driver make a pit stop.
When we arrived the people in the office said there were no more tours for the day. Ashley spit the whole sob story… we came all the way from America to see the track. HA!
It worked! We got a private tour of the track and grandstands! Our guide was super kind and drove us around answering Ashley’s mile long list of questions.
Made it to the airport with just enough time. Had to cut lines again, but made it to the gate just in time.
KL, see you soon!
