In Bangkok?! Yes people, Bon Jovi came to Bangkok.
Last minute show change….China wouldn’t let him perform because he apparently disrespected the Dalai Lama. Not really sure.
Tickets went on sale on a Saturday and the show was Tuesday. There were 10 of us gals from work that went. We thought it would be a fabulous idea to dress up like the 80’s for the concert…chunky jewelry, bright colors, side ponytails. We all got ready right after school and headed for the arena. We grabbed some dinner beforehand at a restaurant close by. People around us were staring and we were getting lots of funny looks. We kept saying, I can’t believe nobody else dressed up for this. That was until we realized… Hello, we were in Thailand. People in Thailand did not know how people dressed in the 80’s in America. Duh. Regardless, we rocked the outfits and it made for some great conversation starters throughout the night.
Concerts in Asia are a bit different than back home. People in the front row were sitting down. What?! We were up in the nosebleeds and stood almost the entire time. I will say that they did know all the words to the songs, even all the new songs. Seriously, there is no way they listen to Bon Jovi on the regular….they must have had the Bon Jovi YouTube channel on repeat from Saturday to Tuesday. Even thought they knew all the words they weren’t belting them out… just casually singing along. Although I will give Thai people props for being on point with arm motions. You better believe once Bon Jovi started doing the arm motions, side to side, up and down, etc…. every single person in the arena participated. It was just as entertaining to people watch as it was to watch the concert.
The picture below made it onto a billboard back home in Oklahoma City! Thanks Lamar advertising! ![]()
